AIADMK stages protest against delay in making new integrated bus terminus operational

The cadre of the AIADMK staged a demonstration in Tiruchi on Thursday condemning the DMK government and the Tiruchi City Corporation for not making the newly constructed integrated bus terminus at Panjapur operational even after a month it was formallly inaugurated.

The AIADMK members also condemned the civic body for the slow pace of the overbridge work near the Tiruchi Fort railway station and other projects. The demonstrators demanded immediate repairs to the badly damaged roads connecting the area between Palakkarai and Beema Nagar and the underground drainage works.

The demonstration held near the MGR statue in Marakkadai was led by the former Minister and the party’s organising secretary C. Vijayabaskar. Organised by the party’s Tiruchi urban district unit, the demonstration saw the participation of the party’s Tiruchi urban district secretary and former Deputy Mayor of Tiruchi J. Srinivasan and former MP T. Rathinavel.

Mr. Vijayabaskar said although the new integrated bus terminus at Panjapur, constructed at a cost of over ₹300 crore was inaugurated more than a month ago, it was yet to become operational.

Tiruchi city was choking with traffic congestion, he charged and added that the two local Ministers had no time to attend to the problem. Highlighting the achievements of the AIADMK regime in Tiruchi, Mr. Vijayabaskar said the Yatri Nivas and the Tropical Butterfly Conservatory at Srirangam, the new Kollidam bridge and the Tamil Nadu National Law University were all functioning. Besides these, many other projects had been implemented in Tiruchi district during the AIADMK regime.

The prolonged delay in the completion of the ongoing overbridge work near the Tiruchi Fort railway station was causing huge hardship to the general public, Mr. Vijayabaskar said. Several areas in the city had been dug for the underground drainage project, he said and added that the woes of the DMK government would reflect in the 2026 Assembly elections.
