Accra, July 3, GNA 鈥 An eight-member governing board of the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), chaired by Mr Kasser Ambrose Tee, was on Thursday inaugurated and sworn into office.

The members are Mr Gordon TanGa, Madam Irene O. Messiba, Peter Abrefa Damoah (Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III), Mr Worlase Kpeli, Mr Badombie Bakuoro Fuseini, Mr Kofi Adjei Baafi, and Mr George Aduko.

Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, the Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, in his inaugural speech, charged the board to proactively explore avenues for increasing AESL鈥檚 revenue base.

鈥淭his includes strengthening engagement with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and other public institutions that require consultancy services,鈥 he stated.

He said despite growing competition, the AESL was reputed for its professionalism, and that its technical depth remained a major asset.

Mr Adjei urged the board to harness that strength through strategic investments, revived client relationships, targeted partnerships, and a clear focus on new market, stressing that 鈥淪ectors such as roads, oil and gas, and infrastructure modernisation present promising opportunities for growth.鈥

He brought to the attention of the members a proposal currently under discussion of the possible realignment or merger of AESL with the Public Works Department (PWD), explaining that 鈥淭his idea seeks to streamline public sector consultancy functions for greater efficiency and national impact.鈥

The Minister encouraged the board to examine the proposal carefully, provide a thorough assessment, weighing both the potential benefits and challenges, and advise the Ministry accordingly, adding, 鈥淵our insight will be vital in determining the best path forward.鈥

Mr Adjei commended management of AESL for settling all legacy debts owed SSNIT, GRA and the retired staff.

Mr Ambrose Tee, the Board Chairman, on behalf of the members, expressed gratitude to President John Draman Mahama for giving preference to the group as a board to help re-set the AESL

鈥淎s the board chairman we are going to look at the law or the Act that establishes the AESL to review it and chart a strategic path for the institution in line with trends in modern era of how things are done. We should have different approaches to designs relating to our environment,鈥 he stated.

He said the discussion and decision of the merging of the AESL with PWD would need policy change and direction and assured the Minister of the board coming to him to look at the pros and cons of the issue.
