LAGOS 鈥 A former presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has mourned the passing of His Excellency, Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, a former governor of Kwara State, describing him as an exceptional Statesman.
In a press statement released to the media on Friday, Dr. Hashim stated that the Late Adebayo is a 鈥渟ymbol of principled leadership in Nigeria.鈥
According to him, 鈥淐hief Adebayo was not only a man of impeccable integrity, but also an intellectual and political pathfinder whose life and career inspired many of us.
鈥淚 recall with deep personal reflection that my very first political engagement was in support of his Governorship bid in 1983.
鈥淭hat formative experience ignited in me a lifelong commitment to politics founded on values, service, and courage.鈥
He added that 鈥渂eyond his contributions to Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole, Chief Adebayo played a critical role in shaping the political direction and leadership consciousness of the North Central zone and the Middle Belt.
鈥 He understood the unique identity, challenges, and potential of our region and worked tirelessly to chart a course for its political relevance and development within the broader Nigerian federation.鈥
In Chief Adebayo, he maintained, 鈥渨e had a leader who never wavered in his commitment to justice, democracy, and national unity.
鈥淗is life was a reminder that politics can indeed be grounded in decency, intellect, and service to humanity.
鈥淗is passing is a monumental loss, not only to his family and the people of Kwara State but also to the entire North Central, the Middle Belt, and Nigeria at large.鈥
Dr. Hashim added that 鈥渉is ideals live on, and his legacy will continue to guide us as we strive to build a more just, united, and prosperous nation.
鈥淥n behalf of my family, friends, and political associates, I extend my deepest condolences to the Adebayo family, the government and people of Kwara State, and all those who mourn this irreparable loss.鈥
He concluded by praying that 鈥渕ay God grant us the wisdom to sustain the noble ideals he lived for.鈥
