Accused in 2011 Attempt-to-Murder Case Nabbed After 8 Years on the Run

Mangaluru: In a major breakthrough, police have arrested a man who had been evading arrest for eight years in connection with a serious attempt-to-murder case reported in 2011 at Urbanagudde, located in Thumbe village, Bantwal.

The accused, identified as Akbar Siddique, a native of B Mood village in Bantwal taluk, was apprehended on June 30 by personnel from the Bantwal Rural Police Station. He was caught in Dharmasthala, where he had been hiding to avoid court proceedings.

According to officials, Siddique had deliberately stayed away from the trial process for nearly a decade, despite being wanted in a violent criminal case. Following his arrest, he was presented before the jurisdictional court, which has since remanded him to judicial custody.

The original case was registered in 2011 and involves grave charges, including criminal intimidation, assault, trespassing, and attempted murder. The incident had created unrest in the Urbanagudde area at the time.

The FIR at Bantwal Rural Police Station includes multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) — namely 143, 147, 148, 447, 448, 504, 323, 324, 326, 354, 506, 307, 427, read with Section 149, all tied to the violent group attack.

Police continue to investigate the case further, with efforts underway to identify and act against any other absconding co-accused if involved.
