Superman Reviews: Critics Have A Lot Of Strong Feelings About James Gunn's New Movie

David Corenswet in the new Superman movieThe reviews are out for the new Superman movie, which serves as Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn鈥檚 first attempt at completely rebooting the DC Comics cinematic 鈥渦niverse鈥.

Critics have near-unanimously picked up on a few key details from the film 鈥撀爊amely that the story in the new Superman hero doesn鈥檛 spend much time establishing the character. Instead, when we meet him, the world is already well-acquainted with the titular hero, whose alter-ego Clark Kent is already dating Lois Lane, who is well aware of his other identity.

Similarly, the reviews all mention just how ambitious James Gunn鈥檚 new movie is, cramming in fight sequences, humour, political allegory and a very cute dog, seemingly switching tone from minute to minute.

What the critics are less in agreement over, however, is how effective the film actually is.

Although Superman has acquired a 鈥渇resh鈥 early critical score of 86% on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, it鈥檚 worth pointing
