While it is a known fact that the politician鈥檚 wife, Rama Duwaji, the 27-year-old multimedia artist, will be the one by his side if he wins the elections, internet users have been more curious about her background and their love story for a while now.
Who Is Rama Duwaji?
According to the BBC, Rama Duwaji is a New York-based artist with her roots in Syria, as her work mainly explores Middle Eastern themes. They have also appeared on various news outlets as well as London鈥檚 Tate Modern Museum. 鈥淩ama isn鈥檛 just my wife; she鈥檚 an incredible artist who deserves to be known on her own terms,鈥 Mamdani wrote in a May 12 post, announcing their wedding.

Having been away from her husband鈥檚 primary election campaign, Duwaji鈥檚 professional work has gained her fame. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University before earning a master鈥檚 degree in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. 鈥淯sing drawn portraiture and movement, Rama examines the nuances of sisterhood and communal experiences,鈥 her professional website states.
Speaking about her work, much of it is in black and white and depicts scenes from Arab culture. Speaking with Yung Mea in April this year, Duwaji shared, 鈥淭hese days, I focus on making art about my experiences and the things I care about, and the community that forms from conversations about my work 鈥 both online and in person 鈥 happens organically. I make my work for people who care about the things I care about.鈥
Zohran Mamdani, Rama Duwaji鈥檚 Love Story
Coming to her relationship, Democratic candidate Zoran Mandani and Rama Duwaji met on the dating app Hinge. They reportedly got engaged in October 2024 and finally got married in a civil ceremony in early 2025.
鈥淭hree months ago, I married the love of my life, Rama, at the City Clerk鈥檚 office. Now, right-wing trolls are trying to make this race鈥攚hich should be about you鈥攁bout her,鈥 Mamdani wrote on Instagram.
Hailing from Syria, Duwaji currently lives in Texas with her family.
