Why Were All The F1 Drivers On The Podium Handed LEGO Trophies At British GP?

The top three finishers at Sunday鈥檚 British Formula One Grand Prix received podium trophies unlike any other 鈥 custom-built entirely out of LEGO bricks.
The trophies are part of a multi-year collaboration between Formula One and LEGO, which previously saw 10 life-sized LEGO-built cars featured in a pre-race parade at the Miami Grand Prix 鈥 a moment that quickly went viral.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the F1 World Championship at Silverstone, LEGO created special trophies for the race.

The winner鈥檚 trophy, modeled after the historic RAC golden cup, was constructed using 2,717 LEGO bricks, stood over 59 cm tall, weighed more than 2 kg, and 鈥 contrary to some assumptions 鈥 is not available for purchase as a retail set.
Runner-up Oscar Piastri couldn鈥檛 resist teasing third-place finisher Nico H眉lkenberg, who secured his first career podium after 239 starts.
鈥淗ow does it feel after 15 years of F1 to get a podium trophy that鈥檚 made out of LEGO you can just pull apart?鈥 Piastri joked.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just made out of LEGO that you can pull apart and probably buy next week,鈥 he added with a grin.

Oscar: 鈥淚 also have a question for Nico. How does it feel after 15 years of F1 to get a podium [trophy] that鈥檚 made out of LEGO that you can just pull apart?鈥
Nico: 鈥淚 love LEGO! (鈥) A bit of silver or gold would鈥檝e been nice too.鈥#BritishGP

H眉lkenberg, however, found the humor in it. 鈥淚 love LEGO. It鈥檚 good. My daughter can play with it too. You鈥檝e always got to see the bright side,鈥 he said. 鈥淏ut, you know, a bit of silver or gold would have been nice too 鈥 but I won鈥檛 complain.鈥
Each trophy was built by a team of seven LEGO builders in Denmark, who spent a total of 210 hours assembling the awards. The bricks were glued together to ensure durability.
In addition to the gold-trimmed winner鈥檚 trophy, the second and third-place versions featured white bases with red and blue accents, while the constructors鈥 award was finished in dark blue and gold.
