Emergency services were called to the scene of the M5, between Junction 2 and Junction 3, Rowley Regis, near Birmingham, at around 1.20am on Monday, to reports of a man being on a bridge over the motorway.
The M5 was quickly closed, with the route reopening at around 4.18am on the same day.

West Midlands Police confirmed that a man was detained under the Mental Health Act following the incident.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We were called to a bridge over the M5 shortly after 1am today.
“The motorway was closed while officers dealt with the situation, and a man was detained under the Mental Health Act.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the scene, sending one ambulance. On arrival, they discovered the man, who was assessed by ambulance staff before being conveyed to Midland Metropolitan Hospital.
An ambulance spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.20am to an incident near the M5 junctions 2 and 3 in Rowley Regis. One ambulance attended the scene.
“Upon arrival, we found a man who was assessed by ambulance staff before being conveyed to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital for further assessment.”
