Improve on educational standards prior to contemplating removal of assessments

Education is a continuous process that requires testing at various times. Examples would be testing before going to University or even testing in new job (normally 3 months probationary period) to ensure you are suitable for role. To suggest that by getting rid of one of the testing times will improve education or pupil morale is naive.

Citing secondary school dropout rates as a reason does not really address the problem of WHY students drop out of secondary school. Could such reasons be that they could not envisage opportunities before but can now because of more job opportunities in Guyana hence the improving educational standards in Guyana? Basically, there is more optimism in Guyana.

Pupils who are unhappy with their results can and should be encouraged to improve. Lowering of educational standards is not the answer to 90% of pupils not being happy with their results. The Government should seek to improve the educational standards rather than getting rid of a testing time.
