James Gunn and Zack Snyder’s versions of Superman might leave fans divided. But for the two filmmakers, its a character they both have loved t celebrate in their own manner. With no rough waters, the two directors with a deep association with DC Universe at separate time frames, ahreed to collaborate in the most unexected manner. DC Studios current CEO James Gunn and ex-DC associate Zack Snyder made surprise appearances on this week’s episode of Rick and Morty. The two have lent their voices for the animated sitcom, guest starring as over-the-top versions of themselves. Their collab is probably the most unexpected thing that has happened at the DC till date. The episode shows Rick and Morty being unhappy about the creative direction of Maximum Velocitree, their favorite movie franchise. They then visit the Warner Bros. where they meet Gunn and confront him. Gunn plays the director and producer of Maximum Velocitree Rick and Morty, they use Rick’s Movie-lizer to rewrite the franchise themselves. James Gunn, Zack Snyder appear in Rick and Morty Gunn runs into Snyder at the Warner Bros. cafeteria. The two have some Superman exchange. Snyder says, “Just saw your new cut of ‘Superman.” He adds, “and word of advice, he’s the ‘Man of Steel,’ not the ‘Man of Conversation.’ Do more shots of him punching!” Speaking about Rick Sanchez, Snyder adds, “That’s the guy who sealed Christopher Nolan in the giant bookcase to ‘punish’ him for ‘Interstellar.’ He doesn’t represent real fans. He’s just the smartest man in the universe. Don’t sweat it. He can’t do what we do. Probably.” to which Gunn replies, ” Rick and Morty take the help of Jerry and manage a better ending for their movie. They get sucked into the Movie-lizer, and become new Maximum Velocitree villains. When they die in the movie, Gunn reacts, “They did it! What an ending! They out-done the Gunn!” Makers’ reaction According to Variety, executive producer Scott Marder said, “They were good sports.” He added, “Both of those guys sort of implied that this is the show they watch when they have downtime. So they were thrilled to get to be a part of the world, and there was no pushback or bristling. If anything, they laughed at anything we threw at them. There were probably, frankly, even more digs and more silly things we could have used. All they did was laugh it off.” Marder revealed that Gunn made sure to record his lines the morning after he finished principal production on his upcoming Superman. “I think Gunn called people over him to make sure that this wasn’t going to mess anything up. And it looked like he got the green light pretty quickly. They both came in and were really good sports. I’m a very proud nerd, I idolize both these guys. They’ve got creative freedom very few people have in Hollywood to take big swings.”
