Indore Woman Accuses Husband Of 'Love Jihad', Forcing Her To Consume Beef

A woman from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has accused her husband, a resident of Begusarai in Bihar, of pressuring her to convert her religion and forcing her to eat beef, although he has rejected these allegations.
The woman, identified as Aarti Kumari, approached the Begusarai police in Bihar and requested to be sent back to her hometown. She accused her husband, Mohammad Shehbaz, of forcibly converting her religion and making her eat beef, according to a report by India Today.
Aarti said she met Shehbaz through Facebook. 鈥淎fter years of friendship, I went to Begusarai and married him,鈥 she said. However, things turned sour when Shehbaz allegedly forced her into 鈥楲ove Jihad鈥 and deleted pictures of all Hindu gods from her phone.
Aarti said she was physically assaulted by her husband when she refused to comply to his demands. She said Shehbaz had introduced himself as a gold and silver trader, but actually he only made garlands in a shop.
The woman claimed Shehbaz repeatedly mistreated her and made it clear he no longer wished to keep her. She approached the Superintendent of Police and was referred to the women鈥檚 police station.
Interestingly, Aarti did not file an FIR against her husband and instead submitted a written request to be sent back to Indore. Police officials subsequently conducted a medical examination.
Speaking about her situation, Aarti said she had not been in touch with her parents since getting married. 鈥淭hey consider me dead,鈥 she said, expressing a strong desire to return to her hometown.
In his response to the allegations, Shahbaz denied any wrongdoing and claimed that Aarti had been previously married and had three children. 鈥淪he has undergone an operation and cannot have children anymore. She also has relations with other men and has run away from home three times in five years,鈥 Shahbaz said.
鈥淲hy would I ask someone who cannot even read to eat beef or read the Quran?鈥 Shahbaz said, appealing the district administration to release him from the marriage, calling Aarti鈥檚 accusations 鈥渂aseless.鈥
Sadar DSP Subodh Kumar was quoted as saying, 鈥淎arti approached us but did not file a complaint against her husband. She submitted a written request at the women鈥檚 police station asking to be sent to Indore. Hence, she has been sent to a women鈥檚 shelter, and the process of sending her back home is underway.鈥
