Shubman Gill in Trouble for Wearing Nike Vest During IND-ENG Test?

Shubman Gill was making headlines for all the right reasons over the past four days as Team India look to level the five match test series 1-1.However, Gill’s appearance donning a black vest when he called back (Inning declaration) Indian batters on Day 4 at Edgbaston has ignited controversy, as it clashes with BCCI’s official kit sponsor, Adidas. In a video that is now viral Gill was seen coming out of the dressing room into the pavilion wearing the Nike garment to declare India’s second innings, raising eyebrows. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had signed a Rs 250 crore exclusive apparel contract with Adidas in 2023, which is effective till March 2028, covering all match day and innerwear. According to the contract, Adidas’ branding must feature across the board, a rule that Nike’s logo, its direct competitor could violate. Netizens were quick to point out that Nike is a direct rival, and erupting intense online debates. “Will Adidas fine Gill for donning Nike here? I know the inner is a personal gear and not part of the kit that Adidas provides, but back in 2006-07, Ganguly was penalised for sporting a Puma headband when the Nike was the kit sponsor,” a user wrote on X.Will Adidas fine Gill for donning Nike here?
