Post all health graduates without delay – NPP’s Kwabena Frimpong to Mahama

The Deputy Director of Protocol of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Frimpong, has issued a strong appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to honour his campaign promise of posting health-trained professionals who have remained unemployed for years.

Speaking at the 2025 Handing Over Retreat of the Federation of Ghana Medical Laboratory Students’ Associations (FG-MELSA), Frimpong praised the outgoing and incoming student leaders for their commitment to service, while turning attention to what he described as a critical matter of national concern — the backlog of trained but jobless nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals across the country.

“Their continued unemployment not only wastes valuable human resources but also deepens the frustration among our youth,” Frimpong told the student gathering in Cape Coast.

He cited the example of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, under whose administration health graduates from 2012 to 2016 were posted, describing it as a move that brought immense relief to struggling families and strengthened the health sector.

“Today, I urge President Mahama to emulate and build upon that example…”

“By prioritizing the posting of these skilled graduate health professionals, he will not only reduce the growing rate of unemployment but also unlock the vast potential of professionals eager to contribute meaningfully to national development.”

The retreat, held under the theme “Transitioning with Purpose: Building on Success, Empowering New Leadership for Excellence & Ensuring Continuity & Progress”, brought together outgoing and newly elected student leaders from across Ghana’s medical laboratory institutions.

Frimpong commended the outgoing FG-MELSA President, H.E. Happy Grace Gyasie, for what he described as “a blueprint leadership model,” while urging the new president, H.E. Benedict Ayitey, to lead with humility, vision, and service.

“Leadership is not about applause, it is about service,” he said. “Let your motivation be the impact you create, not the attention you receive.”

Mr. Frimpong, himself a former student leader, reflected on the importance of student governance in shaping future national leaders and encouraged young people to view transitions as opportunities to grow and contribute to Ghana’s development.
