Dear Editor,
Please permit me space in your esteemed publication to address the people of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana.
With the signing of the proclamation on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, paving the way for the dissolution of the 12th Parliament, I take this moment, with a heart full of gratitude to express my deepest thanks to the people of Guyana for affording me the honour of serving as a Member of Parliament over the past five years.
I extend my personal thanks to former President and Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Mr. David Arthur Granger, for his confidence in me and for granting me the opportunity to represent and serve all Guyanese. I also acknowledge the invaluable support and cooperation of my former parliamentary colleagues, the Clerk of the National Assembly, his hardworking and dedicated staff, and former Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Joseph Harmon.
The past five years in Parliament have not been without significant challenges. Working with an administration whose priorities often appeared misaligned with the urgent needs of ordinary Guyanese has been particularly disheartening. Motions I tabled such as those addressing the high cost of living were repeatedly sidestepped and left unaddressed. Additionally, motions concerning the tragic deaths of Isaiah and Joel Henry, which have remained on the Order Paper since 2021, were never brought forward. The motion on gas flaring, moved by my colleague Mr. David Patterson, similarly languished, dying with the dissolution of the 12th Parliament; along with many other vital matters of national importance (Guyana Parliament Order Paper, 2021–2025).
Despite these setbacks, I remain steadfast in my commitment to good governance, transparency, and accountability. I envision a Guyana where every citizen is treated with dignity and afforded the opportunity to benefit from our nation’s vast wealth, a patrimony richly endowed by the Creator.
I dream of a united Guyana, one in which we coexist peacefully, upholding the principles of equality and justice for all. As we approach the general and regional elections on September 1, 2025, I urge all Guyanese to remain focused and discerning. Let us not be swayed by political noise or distraction. Instead, let us evaluate those seeking our vote based on their track record, their policies, and their demonstrated commitment to the people of this country.
These elections are critical to the future of our Republic. They represent a pivotal opportunity to safeguard our democracy and restore confidence in institutions that have, in recent times, been overshadowed by allegations of corruption, political weaponization, and rising lawlessness. We cannot forget the tragic death of Adriana Younge in April 2025, or the brutal murders of Isaiah and Joel Henry in September 2020. These cases, and others like them, highlight the urgent need for justice, security sector reform, and the restoration of public trust.
As I bring this message to a close, I again express my sincere gratitude to all who supported me through prayers, encouragement, and solidarity during my tenure in Parliament. Whether serving at the national level or in another capacity, I remain fully committed to serving you, the people of Guyana.
May God’s blessings be upon each of you. Our nation deserves better—and together, we can achieve that better future.
