If re-elected in September, President Irfaan Ali on Friday recommitted his government to achieving universal secondary education by the end of 2026 as he officially reopened the newly reconstructed Christ Church Secondary School, more than 30 months after the original building was destroyed by fire.
Speaking at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Mark Phillips, Minister of Education Priya Manickchand, Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn, senior officials, teachers, students and parents, the President described the reopening as a symbol of national pride, perseverance, and a deep commitment to educational advancement. He said the destruction of the Middle and Camp streets school in January of 2023, while devastating, marked not an end but a new beginning for Christ Church.
