Chief Electoral Officer of Puducherry P. Jawahar will hold additional charge of the subjects, Forests and Wildlife and Science, Technology and Environment as Commissioner-cum Secretary to the Government of Puducherry, according to an order issued by Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan which will come into immediate effect.
In April, the Puducherry government had divested the CEO of all additional charges held by him. After the Lok Sabha election, the government had allocated five subjects to him. Subsequently, the Election Commission wrote to the government to divest Mr. Jawahar of all the additional responsibilities given to him considering the upcoming Assembly election in the Union Territory.
鈥淎fter divesting him of the additional responsibilities at that point in time, the government now approached the EC again and obtained clearance for giving Mr. Jawahar additional charge,鈥 said a government source.
