Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers in the first Test vs England at Leeds, while all the other bowlers were ordinary at best. Hence, his absence in the India playing XI for the second Test of the series at Edgbaston caused a worry to most Indian fans. He was rested from this game to manage his workload, as he had confirmed before the series that he would play only three out of the five games. His decision to rest the game has recieved some criticism, and now legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar has revealed Kapil Dev’s fitness routine amidst Bumrah missing out. During a show on Sony Sports Network, Gavaskar was asked how players like Kapil Dev and Javagal Srinath could play continuously for long periods of time and not be injured. FOLLOW: India Vs England 2nd Test Live Score The legendary batter claimed that Kapil Dev never went to the gym. He always used to be in the nets, and bowl long spells, and even faced a lot of balls. This was to strenghten his bowling muscles, so that he could do only what his profession required. “How did they play? I think their training was a little bit different. Kapil (Dev) was hardly ever in the gym. He was running around, running around and then he was bowling to about five or six batters in the nets. Then he would come in again and bat himself and bowl to a couple more. So basically he was doing what his profession required. What his expertise required which is bowl, bowl and bowl. So his bowling muscles and the whole body was used to bowling. He was a brilliant athlete. I think he could have been a champion in any sport. He did what his profession required. It was to play cricket, practise cricket,” Gavaskar said.
