Veteran Bollywood producer Vashu Bhagnani has finally broken his silence on the commercial and critical failure of his 2024 film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, (BMCM), which starred Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff in lead roles. In a recent interview, Vashu spoke about the film鈥檚 downfall, admitting that the project turned out to be a major misstep, especially when viewed in the shadow of the original 1998 classic. He also called trusting Ali Abbas Zafar for the film ‘a mistake.’ Vashu Bhagnani calls OG Bade Miyan Chote Miyan ‘very good film’ During an interview with Ronak Kotecha on the YouTube channel Reviewron, Vashu was asked about his views on the two versions of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. His response was blunt yet honest. 鈥淏ahut acchi film thi pehli waali, Amitabh Bachchan aur Govinda waali. Second waali theek nahi thi,鈥 he said, clearly stating that the 2024 version did not live up to expectations. His remarks stressed the wide gap between the beloved comedy of the original and the high-octane action of the reboot. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the newer version tried to reimagine the franchise as a science-fiction action thriller. Despite an impressive ensemble cast that included Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manushi Chhillar, and Alaya F, and a massive production budget of Rs 350 crore, the film only managed to collect Rs 111.5 crore globally, falling flat at the box office and earning the label of a commercial disaster. Vashu calls Bade Miyan Chote Miyan 2 ‘biggest mistake’ Vashu also admitted that his biggest mistake was trusting Zafar with the legacy of the film. 鈥淗e didn鈥檛 understand the title. We kept telling him, it鈥檚 a comedy. Add action, sure, but it should primarily be an action-comedy,鈥 he said. The deviation from the light-hearted tone of the original seemed to alienate the audience that had grown up loving the 1998 version, directed by David Dhawan and written by Rumi Jaffery. Vashu Bhagnani hopes to revive BMCM with new approachNow, Vashu is hoping to revive the franchise with a new approach that honours the spirit of the original. 鈥淲hen I make it again, I鈥檒l bring back Rumi Jaffery to write the story. And if David Dhawan doesn鈥檛 want to direct it, I鈥檒l ask him to co-produce it with me. His mind works fast when it comes to comedy,鈥 he revealed. Would you like BMCM to be remade?
