Whenever the concept of someone’s ideal paradise is discussed, the Maldives often springs to most people’s mind, even if they don’t mention it by its name. Its clear and shimmering turquoise waters and warm sunny weather often lead many to deem it their ideal paradise escape. However, reaching the Maldives can be quite an expensive journey, involving lengthy 12-hour flights and additional transfers via speedboat or seaplane to get to your resort. For those seeking a slice of heaven closer to home, travel enthusiast Scott claimed he’s found a European alternative to the exotic Maldives – and returns flights to get there are only £30. Scott took to Instagram to post a montage of his latest getaway, featuring him basking in the sun and dipping into the pristine waters. He went on to write: “POV: You find the European Maldives in the cheapest most unexpected country.” The footage went onto showcase clips of the powdery white sandy beach and bright blue sea, complete with parasol-shaded tables and chairs for beachside relaxation. Scott couldn’t stop praising the affordable yet stunning accommodation options, boasting sea views and pool access, reminiscent of Maldivian luxury. He also highlighted the array of bars and beach clubs on hand for evening activities. While it seemed like a scene from a fantasy, Scott revealed that the dream-like spot was Ksamil in Albania. Nestled in Southern Albania’s riviera, Ksamil is located merely 15 kilometres (9 miles) south of Saranda and a stone’s throw from the Greek isle of Corfu. In the peak of summer, Ksamil blossoms into one of Albania’s most sought-after beach havens, drawing crowds of local and international holidaymakers in search of a budget-friendly Mediterranean idyll. However, despite Scott’s enthusiasm for this gem, the comments section buzzed with mixed feedback. “It does not look like this… I fell for this con last summer,” one user claimed, while another echoed the sentiment, branding it a ‘tourist trap’. Countering these views, several commenters suggested the trick is to visit during the less busy months, and thereby avoiding the busier months of July and August, in order to enjoy a more relaxing experience. “That’s our Holiday Season then, but when you go some other time it is this calm and Beautiful Like in the Video. I myself am every year in Albania and can say the Video is right with this Beauty,” a visitor explained. Another chimed in: “It looks amazing.”
