After a spectacular rollout across nine Indian cities on July 3, the epic鈥檚 global unveiling continues in North America, featuring a landmark reveal at New York鈥檚 iconic Times Square. Spanning two continents, Ramayana has set a new standard for Indian cinema with its unparalleled scale and ambition.
On July 3, India witnessed a groundbreaking rollout in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Kochi, simultaneously unveiling Ramayana: The Introduction. Today, July 4, the world will see its next chapter as Ramayana lights up Times Square in New York, showcasing the film鈥檚 first visuals on one of the most iconic digital billboards in the world. Namit Malhotra, an 8-time Oscar winner and the visionary behind global hits like Dune, Oppenheimer, and Interstellar, backs Ramayana. This project is more than just a film; it鈥檚 a global event rooted in Indian storytelling, bolstered by world-class collaborators. The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
The film features Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer (making his Bollywood debut), in collaboration with AR Rahman, stunt director Guy Norris (Mad Max: Fury Road), and an international team of creatives. Ramayana unites a dream team to reimagine India鈥檚 greatest epic for a global audience.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Ramayana is the biggest Indian cinematic event to date.
Nitesh Tiwari, director of the film, said, 鈥淩amayana is a story we鈥檝e all grown up with. It carries the soul of our culture. Our aim was to honour that soul 鈥 and present it with the cinematic scale it truly deserves. As a filmmaker, it鈥檚 both a huge responsibility and a heartfelt honour to bring it to life. . Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra鈥檚 Prime Focus Studios and the 8-time Oscar-winning VFX studio DNEG, in association with Yash鈥檚 Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is being filmed for IMAX. Part 1 will release worldwide in Diwali 2026, followed by Part 2 in Diwali 2027.
