Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy have boosted inclusive learning in Lagos State schools by launching the 鈥楨mpowerAbility Hub鈥 at Ikeja Senior High School, one of the state鈥檚 secondary schools.
The initiative, led by the Academy鈥檚 Capstone Group, aims to create a digitally equipped and accessible learning environment where students of all physical abilities can thrive.
Team lead, Teniola Hassan, explained that the hub is more than just a physical space; it represents a transformative commitment to inclusive learning.
鈥淭his initiative speaks directly to the THEMES+ agenda of Lagos State鈥攅specially the Education and Technology pillars鈥攁nd the 鈥+鈥 which stands for inclusion. We are ensuring that no group is left behind.鈥
As part of the project, the group also organised a two-day training for teachers on Foundational Strategies for Inclusive Education. The sessions introduced cutting-edge tools like speech-to-text apps, hearing loops, and the concept of Deaf Architecture, which emphasises classroom visibility and clear sightlines.
鈥淥ne of our partners from Access Tech encouraged that sign language be taught in all schools to bridge the communication gap.
鈥淥n the second day, focus shifted to AI and Practical Tools for Inclusive Learning. Teachers were introduced to AI-powered captioning tools, interactive whiteboards, and adaptive learning platforms tailored to diverse learning needs.
鈥淲e鈥檝e installed interactive boards and projectors in every senior class and trained teachers on their use. This is just the beginning. With more funding, we hope to expand our reach and deepen our impact,鈥 Hassan added.
In her goodwill message, the Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy lauded the fellows鈥 efforts, describing the hub as 鈥淎 bold statement of inclusion, innovation, and impact. Through their commitment, our fellows have created a vibrant digital environment that personalised learning and promotes equal access for all students.鈥
