Transport authorities in Bengaluru confiscated a red Ferrari SF90 Stradale on Thursday after discovering the luxury car hadn’t paid Karnataka’s road tax, according to an NDTV report.
The high-end sports vehicle, registered in Maharashtra and valued at over ₹7.5 crore, had frequently been seen driving through city streets, attracting both car lovers and regulatory scrutiny. Acting on a tip, officials from the Bengaluru South Regional Transport Office tracked the car, confirmed its registration, and verified that no road tax had been paid in the state.
After confirming the violation, enforcement teams seized the Ferrari and served a notice to the owner, instructing them to settle the outstanding tax by Thursday evening. The warning also stated that failing to pay would result in legal proceedings.
Responding swiftly, the owner paid ₹1.41 crore to cover the overdue tax along with penalties. Transport department representatives noted that this sum is among the largest single-vehicle tax recoveries Karnataka has recorded in recent memory.
The operation was part of a larger crackdown by the transport department that began earlier this year. In February, authorities impounded 30 luxury vehicles in Bengaluru for similar offenses—using out-of-state registrations to bypass Karnataka tax obligations.
Officials emphasized that under state motor vehicle laws, any car used consistently within Karnataka must be re-registered locally and pay the prescribed road tax, no matter where it was initially registered. Enforcement teams continue monitoring luxury car meet-ups to detect such violations.
