The proposed new configuration will be approximately half the size of the existing 18-hole course at Beacon Park, a report to Monday鈥檚 Lichfield District Council planning committee meeting said.
Work to the site will include the removal of nine holes from the existing course, as well as remedial works and the installation of three new pathways. There will be no new structural buildings.
The report said: 鈥淢inor topographical works will be made where necessary for the design of each new hole and appropriate turfing. As part of the new layout, the recently permitted Padel courts will be on the northern side of the site and the site to the south is currently under discussion, but there is potential for a nature reserve which is yet to be confirmed.
鈥淭he new nine-hole pitch and putt golf course represents an improvement over the existing facility, through improvement to the layout, and allows for an already permitted Padel court, a potential nature reserve and improves the current, underutilised, golf course, which allows for a whole area improvement of the sports provision in Beacon Park.鈥
The proposals were described as a 鈥減ositive improvement鈥 at Monday鈥檚 meeting. Committee members voted to approve the application.
Councillor Hugh Ashton said: 鈥淭he Friends of Lichfield Historic Parks are very happy with this idea. They are especially happy with the idea the unused nine holes are going to become a nature reserve.鈥
