Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Thursday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of the world鈥檚 most respected and most admired visionary leaders, and bowed to him, as she said her country was graced to welcome him.
Kamla Persad-Bissessar also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi鈥檚 visit to Trinidad and Tobago was not just a matter of protocol, but a profound honour.
Addressing the Indian diaspora, before Prime Minister Narendra Modi鈥檚 address, Kamla Persad-Bissessar said, 鈥淲e are graced by the presence of someone who is near and dear to us.鈥

鈥淚 am deeply privileged to welcome one of the world鈥檚 most respected, most admired visionary leaders, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India,鈥 she said.
Bissessar also said PM Modi has been a transformational force and has refined governance in India.
With his leadership, Prime Minister Modi has positioned India as a prominent global power, she added.
鈥淧rime Minister, you are a transformational force who has refined the governance of India and positioned your country as a prominent and dominant global power.鈥
鈥淭hrough your visionary and futuristic initiatives, you have modernised the Indian economy, empowered over a billion citizens and above all, you have instilled pride into the hearts of all Indians all over the world,鈥 the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago said.
鈥淵et, it is not only governance but your reverence for heritage that has brought us here tonight,鈥 she added.
鈥淲e bow to you, Sir,鈥 Bissessar told PM Narendra Modi, adding, 鈥淲hat inspires this gathering most is your enduring commitment to the Indian diaspora, prompting culture, history and spirit of our shared journey.鈥
Also hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi鈥檚 help to other countries with Covid-19 vaccines during the pandemic, Bissessar said, 鈥淯nder your leadership, India extended its hand to the world, never more so than through your compassion and benevolence with the vaccine initiative four years ago.鈥
鈥淵ou, Sir, ensured that vaccines and supplies reach even the smallest nations, including Trinidad and Tobago. Through your benevolence, you brought hope and calm where there was fear. This was more than diplomacy, this was an act of kinship, an act of shared humanity and an act of love.鈥
鈥淭his is one of the many reasons that we are deeply proud to bestow upon you 鈥楾he Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago鈥, our nation鈥檚 highest honour,鈥 she added.
