Trump's '2 billion farms' gaffe at Iowa event raises mental clarity concerns amid tax bill claims

President Donald Trump has made a bold claim that his ‘big, beautiful bill’ will rescue a staggering 2 billion farms , a figure that has left many scratching their heads. Speaking at the ‘Salute to America’ event in Iowa, Trump boasted about the benefits of his bill, stating, “Very importantly for Iowa, this bill rescues over 2 billion family farms from the so-called estate tax or the death tax.” However, according to AGAmerica.com, there are only around 1.9 million family farms in the entire United States. The President’s claim sparked a flurry of reactions on X, with many expressing their shock and amusement at the sheer number of farms Trump claimed to be saving. One user quipped, “2 billion…? Are we rescuing all of the farms in Europe, Asia, and Africa, too?” Trump also repeated his claim that the bill would eliminate taxes on Social Security, stating, “We’re delivering no tax on Social Security.” However, this claim has been disputed, with critics arguing that the Republican tax and spending cut legislation would only provide a temporary tax deduction for seniors aged 65 and over, rather than completely eliminating the tax, reports the Irish Star . The President’s comments have raised eyebrows, particularly given the alarming concerns about his health following a recent injury. However, not every Social Security beneficiary would qualify for this deduction. Those exempt include low-income seniors already exempt from Social Security taxes, people who opt for benefits before 65, and individuals above a set income threshold. In the Senate’s proposal, a temporary $6,000 deduction for seniors aged 65 and over is outlined, differing from the House’s proposal which includes a temporary $4,000 deduction. The Senate-approved proposal from Tuesday seeks to remove Social Security tax liability for seniors with an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less, or $150,000 for married couples filing jointly. Should this become law, the tax deduction will apply for four years from 2025 to 2029. The event in Des Moines, organised by America250, marks the beginning of what is being touted as a ‘year of celebrations’ leading up to the United States’ 250th birthday on July 4, 2026. Established in 2016, this non-partisan organisation also oversaw the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary parade in Washington, D. C. in May. “We are planning parties. We are planning a national celebration to really unite the country,” Monica Crowley, the White House’s ambassador for major U.S.-hosted events, including the 250th anniversary celebration, shared during a Fox News interview earlier this week. “Bring the country together out of shared patriotism, shared values and a renewed sense of civic pride,” Crowley further commented. Trump unveiled the event with much gusto and a characteristic tirade: “Iowa voted for me THREE TIMES, because they love my Policies for our Wonderful Farmers and Small Businesses, and they LOVE AMERICA!” Trump declared in a social media post drumming up the event. “This will be a very special event, honouring our Great Country, and our Brave Heroes who fought to keep us FREE.” Trump finds himself in Iowa amidst a politically turbulent time as Congress has greenlit a colossal tax cut and spending package that Trump has dubbed the “big, beautiful bill,” while a significant tariff deadline looms. Despite losing the 2020 election but clinching victory in 2024, Trump has noted that he will now preside over America’s 250th birthday celebration and when the United States hosts the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the world’s most cherished sporting event, both of which will take place in the same year. During the summer of 2028, whilst still serving his second term, Los Angeles will play host to the Summer Olympics. “Can you imagine? I missed that four years and now look what I have. I have everything,” Trump mused on May 26 at National Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day. “Amazing the way things work out. God did that. I believe that, too,” he added, chuckling.
