Sexton enjoyed a strong start to his 2025 campaign with the Bulldogs before the mid-season arrival of Lachlan Galvin threw his immediate future at the club into question.
Despite the external noise, Sexton has continued to play his role for the Bulldogs in their bid for a minor premiership; so much so that it has been hard at times for coach Cameron Ciraldo to find a clear way to use Galvin midway through games.
According to Code Sports, the deal with the French club is worth around $1 million.
While Sexton still looks set to be a key contributor for the Bulldogs down the stretch, there was always a sense that Galvin would eventually take over as the team’s first-choice halfback next season and it left the 24-year-old looking elsewhere.
In the end, the Super League will be the next stop in Sexton’s playing career, which he started at the Gold Coast Titans before joining the Bulldogs in 2023.
Sexton said in a Catalans statement that he was “super pumped” to be joining the Dragons while interim head coach Joel Tomkins believes he will only continue to elevate his game with the move overseas.
“Toby is an exciting young half with a strong kicking game, excellent game management, and composure under pressure,” Tomkins said.
“He’s already showing that he can perform at the top NRL level, and I believe he’s only going to get better. His attitude, professionalism, and competitive nature will be a great fit for our squad and the culture we want to build within the team.”
