Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has disapproved of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah鈥檚 comments raising suspicions that Covid-19 vaccine could be a reason for the series of recent deaths due to heart attack in Karnataka.Shaw, who is also the executive chairperson of the Bengaluru-based biopharmaceutical company, said in a post on X that the Covid-19 vaccines developed in India were approved under the Emergency Use Authorisation framework, following rigorous protocols aligned with global standards for safety and efficacy.鈥淭o suggest that these vaccines were 鈥榟astily鈥 approved is factually incorrect and contributes to public misinformation. These vaccines have saved millions of lives and, like all vaccines, may cause side effects in a very small number of individuals. It is important to acknowledge the science and data-driven processes behind their development, rather than engage in retrospective blame.鈥滺er reaction comes in the backdrop of Siddaramaiah鈥檚 remarks about the vaccine while commenting on the heart-attack related deaths in Hassan district. The CM Siddaramaiah, on Tuesday, expressed doubts over the adverse effect of the vaccines. He blamed the BJP for what he posed on X 鈥渢he hasty approval and distribution of the Covid vaccine to the public could also be a reason for these deaths as several studies worldwide have recently indicated that Covid vaccines could be a cause for the increasing number of heart attacks. Before BJP criticizes us on this matter, they should ask their conscience.鈥漈he Biocon founder further said that heart attacks being linked to Covid vaccines after four years of being vaccinated does not stack up. 鈥淭here are many other reasons including performance enhancing drugs, excessive exercise routines etc.鈥滾ive EventsShe went on to add that the authorities in India used conventional vaccines which have 100 years of safety data. 鈥淯S used mRNA vaccines which are new and need more safety data. Please follow the science.鈥(You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel)
