The district-level committee, constituted by Hassan Deputy Commissioner K.S. Lathakumari to look into recent media reports on sudden deaths reportedly due to heart attacks, has begun to collect data from the families of the deceased.
The members of the panel, which includes District Health Officer Anil and others, visited the families and gathered information about the medical history and the treatment the deceased underwent.
They interacted with the doctors who treated such patients. The Deputy Commissioner formed the committee following media reports on sudden deaths in Hassan district in the last few months. The committee has been given a week鈥檚 time to submit the report.
Meanwhile, the number of people visiting hospitals for a heart check-up has gone up. According to B. Rajanna, director of the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, in recent days, nearly 1,000 people visited the hospital, and the number was quite high compared to earlier days.
The director appealed to the public that there was no need for panic, and said the reasons for all the sudden deaths could vary. The actual reason for the death could be known only after a detailed verification of records, he added.
