Former arts council chief operations officer Mary Ann Cauchi has been appointed senior director of Kalkara’s Esplora Science Centre. In a statement Thursday announcing the appointment, the science centre said Cauchi would lead Esplora鈥檚 鈥渞evitalisation鈥, focusing on STEAM 鈥 science, technology, engineering, arts and maths 鈥 subjects. The approach focuses on 鈥渘urturing interdisciplinary learning, creativity, and innovation among youth and the wider community鈥, the statement read. Cauchi formerly served as head of the Malta School of Music, and curated projects including the European Year of Creativity and Innovation as part of her work with Artsphere International. 鈥淚n her new role, Mary Ann aims to lead Esplora into a future where science and arts come together to inspire generations of learners, enhancing the centre鈥檚 position as a dynamic hub for innovation, creativity, and scientific discovery鈥, the statement read. Cauchi said it was a 鈥渢rue honour鈥 to be appointed to the role, adding the science centre had the potential 鈥渢o become a national and international reference point for interdisciplinary learning and innovation鈥.
