Moj谩car supports families with education and play

The town of Moj谩car is alive with activity this week as its annual summer school and summer sports programme officially launched, offering local families a dynamic and supportive way to navigate the holiday season. Organised by the Moj谩car Council Education Department in collaboration with Almer铆a Provincial Council Social Services, the dual initiative delivers both morning and afternoon programming combining educational workshops with outdoor sports at Descargador Beach.

A team of 12 specialised instructors, alongside swimming and music teachers, is leading the summer school, ensuring that the more than 150 enrolled children receive personalised, high-quality attention across a range of engaging activities. From creative workshops to team-based games and lessons in healthy habits, the programme offers a space where learning meets leisure.

鈥淲e know that many families face the challenge of balancing work and family life during the holidays,鈥 said Francisco Garc铆a Cerd谩, Mayor of Moj谩car, during a visit to the facilities on the programme鈥檚 opening day. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 why we鈥檝e designed a plan that not only offers fun and educational activities, but also a safe, supervised environment where children can grow and learn every day.鈥 Accompanying the mayor were Noem铆 Linares, Councillor for Educaci贸n e Igualdad (Education and Equality), and Jes煤s Montoya, Sports Councillor, who echoed the importance of the initiative.

鈥淭he summer school not only offers fun activities,鈥 Linares said, 鈥渋t鈥檚 an opportunity for children to develop their creativity, work as a team and learn the values of respect and solidarity.鈥 In the afternoons, attention turns to Descargador Beach, where the summer sports programme transforms the seaside into a vibrant space of physical activity, social interaction, and outdoor enjoyment, especially during the cooler sunset hours.

鈥淭he beach becomes a meeting point for sports, socialising, and enjoyment,鈥 said Councillor Montoya, highlighting the inclusive, community-focused nature of the programme. The combined offering not only supports working families but also strengthens community ties, promotes healthy lifestyle habits, and enhances the educational and recreational landscape of Moj谩car during the summer months. With both the summer school and summer sports now in full 鈥榦n鈥 mode, Moj谩car鈥檚 mornings and evenings are buzzing with life, reinforcing the town鈥檚 commitment to family wellbeing and youth development.

Whilst from here we give a huge round of applause to Ayuntamiento de Moj谩car for its initiative, we can only hope other communities catch on as I know many families could do with extra help balancing children and work this summer!
