Recently, several incidents have emerged where tourists visiting popular destinations have caused chaos by littering and polluting the environment. In one such case, a video has gone viral showing a man confronting another individual for allegedly throwing a used bottle into Nainital Lake. The video has sparked widespread outrage online. The video, shared by Karan Verma on Instagram, captures the moment he questions a man standing by the lake about why he threw a bottle into the water. The man denies the accusation and asks Karan if he saw him do it. Karan insists, saying that the man had admitted to it before the video started recording and that he personally witnessed the act. The accused man, visibly irritated, tells Karan to stop bothering him. At one point, the man briefly confesses to having “accidentally” kicked the bottle into the lake but quickly tries to change the subject. Karan repeatedly confronts him, and at one point says, “Kooda aap phek rahe ho, educated lag rahe ho par ho nahi” (You’re throwing garbage; you look educated, but you’re not). The video’s caption reads, “Really upsetting experience in Nainital. I was there in Zoomland, and I saw a guy throw a bottle into the lake. When I confronted him, he admitted it but with a very rude tone, and he was not at all feeling guilty about what he just did. As I started recording, he changed his story and started misbehaving with me in a very aggressive manner. What’s worse is that not a single person around stepped in or supported what I was standing up for. Nainital is one of the most beautiful places we have, but it hurts to see how casually people disrespect it—and how okay everyone else seems to be with it.” The video has triggered massive reactions online. One user commented, “Good job on putting some sense into him.” Another wrote, “Good that you posted this video. Let him be trolled for his uneducated behaviour.” A third remarked, “Wow, what a hero—littering in the lake and throwing a tantrum when called out. Truly setting new standards in civic sense. And shoutout to the silent audience too—nothing says ‘concerned citizen’ like pretending not to see.”
