Tech Layoffs 2025: IBM, Intel, Microsoft, And Google Slash Down More Than 1 Lakh Jobs Until Now

Looks like 2025 is going to be a very complicated year for the tech domain as we have already seen multiple layoffs now. Until now, around 100,000 jobs have been cut down on a global level from popular firms like Meta, Google, Intel, and Microsoft. Most of the layoffs are being executed due to the change in priorities of the mentioned firms and extra focus on the AI race. Microsoft has fueled the layoff spree by slashing down 9,100 employees pretty recently, affecting the gaming and Xbox departments brutally. Tech Layoffs Are Not Stopping Anytime Soon Intel, at the current point in time, is going through a restructuring phase under the new CEO Lip-Bu Tan. 107 employees from Intel are going to lose their jobs at the Santa Clara headquarters. In addition, Intel is also shutting down the automotive chip unit in Germany where the firm is going to lay off the entire team. By mid-July, Intel has planned to lay off around 20 per cent of its global workforce from departments like cloud architecture and chip design. Talking about IBM, they reportedly removed around 8,000 employees and most of it came from the Human Resource department. IBM is focused on automating the tasks of HR via AI which will remove the need of individuals to perform repetitive work. Microsoft is on the same path with the latest job cuts affecting around 9,000 employees which is around 4% of its workforce. According to the latest Bloomberg report, Candy Crush Studio, King, will also witness a layoff of about 200 roles. Coming to Google, the tech giant has removed hundreds of employees from the Platforms and Devices department. The story is no different when it comes to other big players like Meta, Amazon and more. The primary reasons cited by most of the companies are restructuring and a shift in focus, specifically on AI. With the layoffs in motion, the same companies are also hiring for multiple AI-related roles which means it’s time to pivot for the individuals.
