Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Counters Siddaramaiah's Covid-19 Vaccine Link To Hassan Heart Attack Deaths

After Siddaramaiah claimed big and hinted towards the rising heart attack cases related to COVID-19 vaccines, Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw countered the Karnataka Chief Minister and stated that COVID-19 vaccines developed in India were approved under the Emergency Use Authorisation framework. She added that the vaccines were approved after following rigorous protocols aligned with global standards for safety and efficacy.
Responding to Siddaramaiah鈥檚 claims regarding the rising heart attack cases in Karnataka鈥檚 Hassan, Shaw said that suggesting that these vaccines were 鈥榟astily鈥 approved is factually incorrect and contributes to public misinformation.
The Biocon Chairperson鈥檚 remarks came after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday took note of the alarming rise in heart attack-related deaths in Hassan district in the past month and said that the 鈥渉astily-approved鈥 COVID vaccines could be a reason for the spate of deaths being reported in the state.
In reply to Siddaramaiah鈥檚 post on X, Shaw wrote, 鈥淭hese vaccines have saved millions of lives and, like all vaccines, may cause side effects in a very small number of individuals. It is important to acknowledge the science and data-driven processes behind their development, rather than engage in retrospective blame.鈥

The government is taking this matter very seriously, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and stated that to identify the exact cause of these series of deaths and to find solutions, a committee of experts has been formed under the leadership of Dr Ravindranath, Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.
鈥淚t cannot be denied that the hasty approval and distribution of the COVID vaccine could also be a reason for these deaths, as several studies worldwide have recently indicated,鈥 Siddaramaiah wrote on X.
He also hit out at the BJP, accusing it of using the issue for political gains instead of reflecting on its own decisions.
