Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield making an appearance in Tom Holland-starrer Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021 might be one of the most thrilling moments in MCU’s history, but the way the two former Spidey’s enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe wasn’t initially the way it was depicted in the movie, that is getting pulled in Tom’s timeline through Doctor Strange’s sling ring which was wildly used by Ned. It showed the rings opening up the portals as both Tobey and Andrew walk in and get stuck in Tom’s side through the course of the film. Infact director Jon Watts had conceived their introduction differently. But a fan’s guess work changed the entire plan! Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home During an interview with Collider at the Mediterrane Film Festival, Watts revealed he had to shift their entry scenes in the story because a fan on Reddit predicted his original idea. Speaking on how fans were speculating that the two previous Spider-Man stars were set to appear in the third installment of the MCU movie, Watts said, “There had been rumors that Tobey and Andrew were going to be in the movie, and this is while we’re shooting. We were writing the script, and we were working on where we wanted to reveal the guys, and it always seemed like Peter’s going to be sad because Aunt May has just died, and that the portals are going to open, and the two Spider-Men are going to step out.” Reddit post changed the plan Watts shared of getting hold of a fan-made piece of art on Reddit similar to his then-planned scene. “Then I was on Reddit, and I was looking at people who had already made fan art of, ‘This is probably what it’s going to be like when the two Spider-Men get revealed.’ It was on a rooftop. It was sad, two Doctor Strange portals were open and two Spider-Men are stepping out. I was like, ‘Well, we can’t do that. If that’s exactly what everyone thinks we’re going to do, we absolutely can’t do that.’” That’s when they changed the setting to Ned’s (Jacob Batalon) grandmother’s home and reworked to add an element of surprise for fans. The filmmaker shared, “So, after I saw all this fan art, and I’ve decided, ‘We absolutely can’t do just exactly what everyone thinks we’re going to do,’ I was like, ‘What does no one expect that we’re going to do? What’s something that no one’s going to see coming? I was like, ‘Probably having the two Spider-Men appear at Ned’s Filipino grandma’s house in Queens. I don’t think anyone was doing fan art of that on Reddit.’ It made perfect sense in the story because it’s kind of the first time we leave Peter’s narrative.” ALSO READ: Spider-Man Brand New Day: Who Is Mayday Parker – Sadie Sink’s Rumoured Character In Tom Holland Movie?
