Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday was conferred with 鈥楾he Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana鈥, the country鈥檚 national honour, for his 鈥渄istinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership鈥. The Prime Minister received the award from the Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.
Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, 鈥淗onoured to be conferred with 鈥楾he Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana鈥.鈥 He added that the honour is dedicated to the bright future of our youth, their aspirations, our rich cultural diversity and the historical ties between India and Ghana.

鈥淭his honour is also a responsibility; to keep working towards stronger India-Ghana friendship. India will always stand with the people of Ghana and continue to contribute as a trusted friend and development partner,鈥 he added.
The award was conferred on the prime minister in recognition of his 鈥漝istinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership,鈥 the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a press release.
Thanking the people and government of Ghana for the special gesture, the prime minister noted that the 鈥漵hared democratic values and traditions of the two countries would continue to nurture the partnership鈥.
He said the award 鈥漟urther deepens the friendship between the two countries and places new responsibility on him to embrace and advance bilateral ties.鈥 Modi asserted his confidence that his 鈥漢istoric鈥 state visit to Ghana would impart a new momentum to India-Ghana ties, according to the MEA.
Notably, PM Modi鈥檚 visit to Ghana is the first prime ministerial visit from India to Ghana in three decades. The Prime Minister is in Ghana on the first leg of his five-nation tour.
