President John Mahama has announced a major agricultural transformation initiative under the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy programme, beginning with the irrigation of more than 2 million hectares of land.
Speaking at the official launch of the 24-Hour Economy in Accra, President Mahama said the irrigation project falls under Grow 24, one of eight strategic pillars of the programme. The initiative aims to revitalize Ghana’s agriculture sector through sustained, technology-driven investments.
According to the President, these agro-industrial parks will serve as hubs for agro-processing, packaging, and value addition enhancing market access and income opportunities for farmers.
He emphasised that the Grow 24 pillar will also promote food self-sufficiency, boost agricultural exports, and provide support in the form of mechanisation, access to modern inputs, and farmer cooperative development.
President Mahama further noted that the broader 24-Hour Economy initiative is designed to enhance productivity across agriculture, manufacturing, services, and the creative economy facilitated by improved infrastructure, financing, and digital connectivity.
