Sri Lankan cricket icon Sanath Jayasuriya has marked his 56th birthday in style.
The former national captain and Member of Parliament treated himself to a brand-new BYD Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid SUV. Pictures of the delivery, taken outside what appears to be his grand residence, are now making waves online.
Wearing simple attire, Jayasuriya is seen receiving the elegant white SUV from dealership staff, proving that true class doesn’t need flashy clothes.

BYD Sealion 6: All You Need To Know
The BYD Sealion 6 is no ordinary vehicle. It was the first BYD model to launch in Sri Lanka and also the country’s first-ever plug-in hybrid. The SUV comes in two variants: Superior, priced at LKR 21.7 million, and Premium, costing LKR 25.3 million (around Rs 61.8–72.1 lakh). While it’s unclear which version Jayasuriya chose, both offer impressive features.
Its powertrain combines a petrol engine—likely a 1.5-litre unit—with an electric system and an 18.3kWh battery. The result is a claimed range of 1,092 kilometres and an output of 238 bhp with 550 Nm torque. At nearly 4.8 metres long and riding on 19-inch wheels, it’s a striking presence on the road.
Inside, the Sealion 6 boasts modern technology: a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, head-up display, a 10-speaker Infinity audio setup, ventilated seats, and advanced driver assistance systems.
BYD’s Big Sri Lankan Success
BYD entered the Sri Lankan market in 2024, partnering with John Keells CG Auto. The Sealion 6 DM-i was their first model, and its popularity quickly soared. The Chinese brand now has over 5,000 confirmed orders for EVs and hybrids, as Sri Lankan buyers warm to the idea of cleaner mobility.
The Sealion 6 has emerged as a firm favourite, while BYD continues to expand its range with models like the Shark-6 pickup. In the coming years, this impressive SUV could also find its way to Indian shores.
