Who doesn’t like a promotion every now and then? We all do, right? However, it’s only few of us who get promoted really fast. Climbing the corporate ladder fast is how one can improve one’s career trajectory. A woman professional in the tech company is making headlines, for she managed to get promoted 5 times in over 6 years. Amazing, right? The question most of us will probably think in our heads is that how did she manage to achieve this feat? Well, the Business Insider reported the strategies the woman deployed to secure the position she in at today. Take on more responsibilities and go beyond the job description Well, one of her strategies was to perform consistently at the level above her current role. She understood what responsibilities came with the next position and then she began to adopt those tasks without anyone asking her to do so. So, what she did was she volunteered to take up the assignments that typically people senior to her would do. This is how she won the trust of people in the higher ups and eventually people at the top thought of her as a resourceful employee. Since she showcased the right set of abilities and competencies, it became easier for her manager to make a strong case for her as to why she is a good fit. Clear communication with mangers Another strategy that worked to her advantage was that she always had clear and honest conversations with her managers and supervisors. Early on, she made sure she got clarification with respect to what was expected out of her and what she needed to do to get to the next level. She said that the discussions helped give her a clear roadmap with respect to where she wanted to head and what she wanted to do. This helped her align her actions with the company’s goals and expectations from her. These two strategies clearly worked in her favour. Come to think of it, these are two such generic strategies that it can work for anyone irrespective of the industry one is in.
