The songs of Toby Keith are getting an update, just in time for the Fourth of July. On Tuesday, Apple Music announced a new collection of six Keith songs, reimagined by some of today鈥檚 rising country stars. Apple Music Nashville Sessions: Toby Keith Covered features Megan Moroney, Ella Langley, Riley Green, Ashley McBryde, Parker McCollum, and Tucker Wetmore putting their own spin on songs like 鈥淲ho鈥檚 Your Daddy?鈥 and 鈥淎s Good As I Once Was.鈥 The EP is streaming now.
Langley interprets the 1993 heartbreak ballad 鈥淲ish I Didn鈥檛 Know Now鈥 and, in a statement, compares Keith to Dolly Parton as a 鈥渇ull package鈥 type of artist. 鈥淚 think he鈥檚 up there with her in the way where he is a full performer all the time. Everywhere he goes, and onstage, he gives 100% of himself. When he鈥檚 writing a song, he gives 100% of himself. I think that鈥檚 what it takes to be an artist like Toby Keith: giving your all, letting your fans in, and seeing who you are as a human being, because we鈥檙e just human beings at the end of the day.鈥

Moroney, meanwhile, chooses a more playful song, Keith鈥檚 2002 hit 鈥淲ho鈥檚 Your Daddy?鈥 off Unleashed. 鈥溾榃ho鈥檚 Your Daddy鈥 has become my band and I鈥檚 pre-show hype song and it felt like the perfect one to choose to cover,鈥 Moroney said. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited to be a part of this series honoring Toby Keith and I hope you love my version as much as we do!鈥
Other songs include 鈥淎 Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action,鈥 covered by McBryde; 鈥淲ho鈥檚 That Man鈥 by McCollum; 鈥淎s Good As I Once Was鈥 by Wetmore; and 鈥淪hould鈥檝e Been a Cowboy鈥 鈥 Keith鈥檚 1993 debut single 鈥 imagined by Green.

鈥淚 think because growing up in Alabama, we didn鈥檛 have a lot of cowboys. We didn鈥檛 have horses; we didn鈥檛 have big, long pastures like they got out in Texas and Oklahoma and all that. For me, that lifestyle of being out on the open range was so foreign to me, but also just seemed cool,鈥 Green says. 鈥淚 loved that song as a kid.鈥
Keith died in 2024 at 62. He was inducted posthumously into the Country Music Hall of Fame later that year.
