Raiders Cited as Possible Landing Spot For Commanders Star Amid Holdout

As the start of training camp gets closer, the biggest storyline for the Washington Commanders is the ongoing holdout from wideout Terry McLaurin. With there still being no end in sight, one analyst tossed out a potential landing spot for the star WR if things go south.Coming off his fifth-straight 1,000-yard season, McLaurin is eyeing a new long-term deal with the Commanders. He is entering the final year of his current contract and aims to be compensated similarly to his top counterparts across the league. With the two sides being unable to work things out earlier this offseason, McLaurin was among the most notable names absent from minicamp. In a recent column for Fox Sports, David Helman broke down one landing spot for each player currently holding out for a new deal. When it came to McLaurin, the Las Vegas Raiders were chosen as his change of scenery if Washington were forced to trade him. Also read: Steelers Named Potential Suitor For Disgruntled Commanders Star”But if I’m dreaming up a perfect landing spot for McLaurin, Vegas really sounds fun,” Helman wrote. “Talk about a big swing for a team that hasn’t had a lot to get excited about. The Raiders are already in decent shape for Geno Smith’s first season. Brock Bowers is a star, and Ashton Jeanty should be one soon. Jakobi Meyers is a solid receiver, but Vegas still needs to upgrade its receiver room. Rather than take your chances in the draft, why not ship a pick or two to Washington and lock in McLaurin for the rest of his prime?”With their sights set on contention, the Commanders should be doing everything they can to make sure this situation ends with McLaurin remaining in Washington. He’s been a pillar for Washington for years now, and quickly built a strong connection with Jayden Daniels. His departure would be a massive blow for a team that just built up a ton of upward momentum in 2024.Also read: NFL Analyst Puts Jayden Daniels In Exclusive Group With Patrick MahomesThroughout this process, the Commanders have been confident they’ll get a deal done with McLaurin. However, all the recent chatter regarding his holdout has not been positive. While on “The Pat McAfee Show” Monday, NFL insider Adam Schefter cited that there isn’t anything new when it comes to updates on McLaurin’s negotiations with Washington.”There’s no update, which is the update,” Schefter said. “And that’s the problem.”Only time will tell if the Commanders and McLaurin are able to put this whole thing behind them before training camp kicks off in a couple of weeks. For more Washington Commanders and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
