Energy costs have gone down this month as Ofgem adjusted its price cap and new forecasts say they are expected to fall further in October. The regulator has lowered the price cap by seven per cent to 拢1,720 per year for a typical household dual-fuel bill. Cornwall Insight has predicted that in October this will fall further to 拢1,698. But experts say there’s no need to wait for your bills to go down as there are plenty of great deals available. Fixed tariffs offer the greatest certainty and there are many that are already even cheaper than the October price cap forecast. Elise Melville, energy expert at Uswitch.com, said: “A predicted 1 per cent fall in the October price cap follows weeks of volatility in wholesale costs linked to the tensions in the Middle East. “Remember that these are just predictions, and the real price cap could be higher or lower than this latest forecast. “Households don’t have to wait to start making savings on their energy bills. “There are already more than ten fixed deals on the market cheaper than the predicted October rates.” At present, Outfox the Market is at the top of the list, with several deals covering 12, 18, and 24 months. The best saving is 拢145 on the new July price cap for a two-year fixed deal, with an average annual bill of 拢1,575. It’s also 拢123 less than the predicted October price cap.
