Kolkata gangrape case: Three accused, one security guard to be produced in court

Kolkata: Four persons, including three accused and one security guard, will be produced in a Kolkata court on Tuesday in connection with rape of a law student. Commissioner of Police-Kolkata Manoj Verma assured that all necessary steps in regard to the investigations have been taken by Kolkata Police.Commissioner of Police-Kolkata Manoj Verma said, “This case is very sensitive. I don’t want to reveal case related investigation details. We have received a lot of data. We are analyzing that data. We don’t want to disclose any information to avoid any impact on the investigation. All necessary actions have been taken by the police. I want to give assurance that all further actions in terms of investigations have been taken. Everything has been kept under the purview of the probe.鈥濃淧olice is probing the case. FIR was lodged quickly. Three accused were arrested. We have collected a lot of evidence in this case,鈥 Verma added.The Commissioner of Police visited Kasba Police Station on Monday evening to review the progress of the investigation in the case. Verma held a two-hour meeting with officers of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).The three accused, Monojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukherjee, were arrested on Friday on charges of raping a woman inside a law college premises. They were remanded to police custody till July 1. Mishra and two others reportedly had links to Trinamool Congress鈥檚 students鈥 wing Trinamool Chhatra Parishad. They were remanded to police custody till July 1.Live EventsOn Saturday, a security guard was arrested in connection with the case.Meanwhile, Kolkata Police issued an advisory regarding the protection of victim鈥檚 identity, posted in its X Handle, 鈥淚t has come to notice that certain individuals are attempting to disclose the identity of the victim in the Kasba case through the circulation of confidential documents or by other means. This is a serious violation of the law. Strict legal action shall be initiated under the relevant provisions against anyone found involved in such acts. The public is strongly advised to refrain from sharing any information that could lead to the identification of the victim. Respecting the dignity and privacy of victims is a legal obligation and a moral imperative.鈥滿eanwhile, Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra, who was show-caused by his party leadership for his recent controversial comments on the rape victim, replied to the on Tuesday.(You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel)
