Bollywood and Punjabi film actress Upasana Singh has been entertaining audiences for decades with her dynamic roles and expressive screen presence. She began her acting journey as a child artist in the 1986 film Babul, and two years later appeared in Bai Chali Sasariye (1988), a Rajasthani-language film that created history by running for 100 days in theatres鈥攁 landmark achievement in Rajasthani cinema.
Upasana earned national recognition with her double-role performance in the 1997 film Judaai, which starred Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, and Urmila Matondkar. In the film, she played both Paresh Rawal鈥檚 deaf-mute wife and his daughter, who was also Johnny Lever鈥檚 love interest. Her line, 鈥淎bba Dabba Jabba,鈥 became an instant catchphrase and cemented her place in pop culture. The film was both a commercial and critical success, and Upasana鈥檚 comic timing stood out even in a star-studded cast.
Over the years, Upasana Singh has portrayed a wide range of characters in both leading and supporting roles. She was seen in popular Bollywood films such as Darr, Jawani Zindabad, Loafer, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Aitraaz, Old Is Gold, My Friend Ganesha, Golmaal Returns, and Hungama.
The Bua Era on Kapil Sharma Show
While her film performances were many, it was television that catapulted her into iconic territory. Her portrayal of the ever-desperate-for-marriage 鈥淏ua鈥 on Comedy Nights with Kapil (2013鈥2016) became one of the most loved characters on Indian TV. Her dialogues and chemistry with co-stars, especially Kapil Sharma and Navjot Singh Sidhu, made her a fan favourite.
After stepping away from regular TV appearances, Upasana redirected her focus toward regional cinema and production. She has been actively involved in Punjabi films and also launched her own production company. Though Kapil Sharma has invited her back for his new Netflix venture, The Great Indian Kapil Show, she has made it clear that she will only return if offered a role that is substantial and creatively satisfying.
From working alongside legends like Ajay Devgn and Anil Kapoor to leaving an indelible mark as 鈥淏ua鈥 on Indian television, Upasana Singh鈥檚 journey reflects the story of an actress who chose craft over convenience.
