Apple received a lot of backlash and a couple of lawsuits due to the debut of its Apple Intelligence model last year. Now, a report published by Bloomberg suggests that the Cupertino-based tech giant is looking to partner with AI giants OpenAI or Anthropic PBC to develop a new version of Siri. This is a considerable step keeping in mind that Apple has been struggling in the AI department and has been unable to keep up with the competition. Apple To Partner With OpenAI or Anthropic The Bloomberg report on the same said that Apple is already in discussions with both OpenAI and Anthropic to get their large language models onboard. It is being said that Apple has asked both AI companies to train custom versions of their AI models to run on the infrastructure of Apple cloud. The main focus of Apple is to get a model that has been trained well for its Private Cloud Compute servers backed by top-notch Mac processors. To be precise, these talks are in the early stages right now. In addition, Apple has not finalized which brand it will go with. Apart from that, the smartphone-producing brand is still working on an internal model named LLM Siri. The AI department of Apple is going through an overhaul since Siri chief Mike Rockwell and software engineering head Craig Federighi took the initiative. The report suggested that Rockwell has asked his team to evaluate other models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude to see how and if they outperform Apple’s in-house model. The tests have suggested that Claude (Anthropic’s AI model) comes out as the best fit for Siri’s supercharging. All in all, the inclusion of a third-party model on Siri’s interface will make it at par with the bots in the current market. Nonetheless, this will increase the work of Apple in the user and data privacy department for sure.
