Independent Member of Parliament for South Lunzu Constituency Alex Chimwala has strongly condemned the torching of Nanthoka Police Unit in Machinjiri describing the act as barbaric.
Chimwala said this on Monday during the official handover of the borehole he has drilled in the area of Village Headman Manjombe in the constituency.
In his speech Chimwala said the torching of the police unit has dented the good image of Machinjiri Township.
鈥淣anthoka Police Unit was helping all of us here in Machinjiri and it is sad that instead of us all taking full responsibility of the police unit some irresponsible people torched the police unit. We spent a lot of money in building the said police unit.
鈥淎m appealing to the people of Machinjiri that if there is disagreement destroying a public infrastructure like police unit is not a solution please,鈥 said Chimwala.
On Thursday last week angry villagers invaded Nanthoka Police Unit demanding the immediate release of Man suspected of killing his worker, a Kabaza operator for them to administer a mob-justice on him but the law enforcers refused.
The development forced the villagers to demolishing the police unit before torching down the house of the suspected killer.
It is said that the Kabaza Operator spent some days without handover the business money.
