Whenever the Congress faces a crisis, two types of leaders typically emerge before TV cameras: those who speak their mind, and those who stick to the party line, saying that the 鈥渉igh command鈥 will take the final call.
While it鈥檚 common for Congress leaders to defer decisions to the high command, it raises eyebrows when party president Mallikarjun Kharge does the same. His remarks often lend weight to the BJP鈥檚 allegation that Sonia Gandhi and his children鈥 Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra鈥 continue to run the party behind the scenes.
Amid speculation about a leadership change in Karnataka, reporters on Monday asked Kharge to clarify the situation. Instead of denying the rumours or offering a clear position, Kharge responded by saying that the party high command would deal with the matter.

The response prompted many, including BJP Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, to question: 鈥淲ho exactly is the high command in the Congress?鈥
Surya jokingly said that the Congress High Command is like a 鈥済host鈥 as it is 鈥渦nseen, unheard, but always felt鈥. 鈥淓ven the Congress President, who people thought is the high command, whispers its name and says it鈥檚 not him,鈥 he added.

Reacting to Kharge鈥檚 remark, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said that the Congress president has no value in the party and only the Gandhi family makes the decisions.
What Is Congress High Command?
The Congress Working Committee (CWC), also known as the Congress high command, is the highest executive committee of the Congress and has a final say in the decisions taken by the grand old party. Besides Congress president Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, P Chidambaram, Sachin Pilot, Shashi Tharoor and 28 other leaders are members of the CWC.
