KOZHIKODE: The Kerala State Child Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the tragic suicide of a Class 9 student from a private school and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commission has demanded detailed reports from the police, the District Child Protection Unit, and the school management. The girl was found hanging at her home on June 23. A suicide note allegedly mentioned that she had faced threats from teachers of being demoted or shifted to another class due to her academic struggles, her family claimed.
Commission Chairman K V Manoj Kumar and member K K Shaju visited both the student鈥檚 home and her school to assess the situation firsthand.
Acknowledging the emotional toll on the student community, the Commission instructed the District Child Protection Unit to begin counselling sessions starting Monday. These sessions are to be offered to her classmates, busmates, and teachers to help cope with the trauma.
The school has been directed to take urgent steps to ensure a supportive and rights-based environment for all its students.
The Commission also asked the police to pursue the case seriously and without compromise. Authorities confirmed that the girl鈥檚 father has now submitted a formal complaint to the Commission seeking justice.
The panel has stated it will continue to monitor developments closely to ensure accountability and prevent such incidents in the future.
