Savoy voters approve all articles at annual town meeting. That includes a 2.9 percent budget hike

SAVOY 鈥 Residents have approved an operating budget of $2.6 million, an increase of just under 2.9 percent from the previous year鈥檚 budget.

School appropriations totaling $1,129,408 make up 43 percent of the total budget. That total reflects a decrease on paper of $163,000 for insurance, which was moved from the school budget to unclassified expenses.

Increases include $20,830 for transportation and $44,179 for McCann Technical School.

Voters at Tuesday’s annual town meeting also approved spending:

鈥 $488,400 for maintenance and operation of the Highway Department, including increased part-time help and increased road maintenance.

鈥 $398,400 for unclassified expenses.

鈥 $273,120 for general government, including adjustments to the treasurer鈥檚 salary, addition of an assessor clerk and an increase for the town office building.

鈥 $224,994 transfer of free cash to the stabilization fund.

鈥 $66,320 for public safety, including an increase for the police chief鈥檚 salary and an increase to building inspector expense.

鈥 $120,000 for snow and ice.

鈥 $53,908 for health and sanitation, including landfill, animal control and health services.
