Moore’s Walk Café in St Neots is a family-owned café, locally known as the ‘best café in the area’. While visiting St Neots for the first time, I decided to visit the locals’ top choice.
The café is hidden in a cosy corner of Moore’s Walk, just around the corner from the market square. It’s somewhat of a Tardis as it seems small on the outside, but larger than you think on the inside.
When I went on a Thursday afternoon, I could tell straight away this was a popular place. The café was filled with laughter and chatter as soon as I entered.
It was also clear the staff knew the customers well, which enhanced the family vibe of this establishment.
You are served at the table, and staff are quick on their feet to make sure you are served as soon as possible. This was great to see, as it meant I wasn’t waiting around for too long.
I sat by the side, next to an eye-catching flower wall. In April, the café underwent a £60,000 refurbishment to give it a refresh.
I loved the décor, and thought it was Instagram-worthy. By this, I mean the flower wall with its neon sign of two hands in a heart shape definitely seemed somewhere like an influencer would pose in front of.
I thought this wall brightened up the place, and contrasted with the marble-designed flooring and tables. It gave the café a modern, friendly feel.
For food, I opted for a full English breakfast. This included hash browns, bacon, mushrooms, a sausage, an egg, and beans. I was served my dish within an impressive five minutes of ordering.
It was piping hot, just as a full English should be. The hash browns – one of my favourite parts of a cooked breakfast – were crispy and a lovely golden brown.
Mixed in with the baked beans, which were lusciously coated in thick tomato sauce, they made a good pairing. The bacon also had a nice crunch to it.
It also wasn’t stringy, compared to the bacon I usually have in my go-to Wetherspoons breakfast. Now the mushrooms. I tend to avoid mushrooms, as they are not a favourite of mine.
However, I plucked up the courage to eat them as they stared at me on my plate. I was glad I did eat them, as they tasted soft and flavourable.
All that was missing from this breakfast was toast, which would have been nice to soak up some of the bean sauce. For my drink I had freshly squeezed orange juice.
Compared to some who like a cup of tea in the morning, I favour a cold cup of orange juice. The freshly squeezed juice was extra sweet and very refreshing. It reminded me of being on holiday, as I always love a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice (apart from a cocktail) when lounging by the pool.
Altogether my meal cost £14, which was £9.80 for food and £4.20 for my drink. I thought this was a fair price, especially for the food as that seems to be the average price for a breakfast.
I did think the price of the drink was slightly higher. But, it wasn’t orange juice from a carton, so it made sense why it was a bit more expensive.
I can’t compare Moore’s Walk Café to others in St Neots, but I can see why it is so popular. The breakfast was lovely, the staff were polite, and the décor is stunning.
For a steaming hot breakfast and great choice of other dishes, Moore’s Walk Café is a great spot to check out.
