Keir Starmer鈥檚 deep unpopularity with voters has been revealed in a shock graphic.
Pollsters Ipsos found that nearly a year after becoming prime minister, his approval rating with the public stands at minus 54.
At the same point in their premierships, Tony Blair was on plus 34 鈥 a staggering 88 points ahead of Starmer 鈥 and David Cameron was on minus 3.
Showing the findings to health secretary Wes Streeting on Sunday, BBC presenter Victoria Derbyshire asked him: 鈥淗ow has that happened?鈥
He replied: 鈥淏y the prime minister鈥檚 own admission, there are things that we haven鈥檛 got entirely right in government.
鈥淏ut you compare the condition of the country when Blair became leader, when Cameron became leader of our country, there were significant challenges.
鈥淏ut were there the multiple crises that we came in with, where pretty much every department had a crisis which on its own would normally dominate the newspapers, but which was one of many things we had to tackle and challenge.
鈥淲e were elected on a platform of change, until people start feeling that change, I don鈥檛 expect the public to give the prime minister, me or anyone else a pat on the back for a job well done.鈥
He added: 鈥淎ll I鈥檇 say to people is give change a chance. It鈥檚 going to take time to turn the country around, we all knew that. We鈥檒l learn from our mistakes, but we鈥檒l also report back to you when we are getting things right.鈥
The poll findings come just days after Starmer was forced to U-turn on his plans for welfare cuts 鈥 his third climbdown in a month after the government reinstated winter fuel payments for millions of pensioners and announced a national inquiry into child grooming gangs.
A separate Ipsos poll revealed by HuffPost UK also found that the public believe Labour is failing on the NHS, cost of living and immigration, the three most important issues for voters.
